Latest Trailer For Hammer’s ‘The Quiet Ones’

Hammer got off to a rocky start when they resurfaced as a studio thanks to the dire remake of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (LET ME IN) and THE RESIDENT, but quickly turned things around with THE WOMAN IN BLACK. Next up is THE QUIET ONES a film that takes a mentally ill girl, believed to be possessed, to a remote house to perform some experiments. Doesn’t that sound like a grand idea?

The trailer is quick and goes for shocks, but the inclusion of some obvious CG elements kind of betray the whole period aspect of the film. John Pogue makes this his second directorial effort, after the surprisingly enjoyable sequel to a remake QUARANTINE 2: THE TERMINAL. There are some found footage elements incorporated, but the film is likely only going to use these for specific set pieces, and a few POV scares I would imagine.

THE QUIET ONES is released 10th April in the UK and 25th April in the US. Its stars Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, Olivia Cooke, Erin Richards, Rory Fleck-Byrne, and Laurie Calvert.

Dire?! I haven’t seen the original but Let Me In was a very good movie and Chloe Moretz delivered a solid performance.

I think pointless remake would have been better.

Just not needed, the original is sublime.

Maybe, but you know how ‘Muricans are… A lot of them won’t bother seeing foreign language movies, so in this sense the remake WAS needed.

Not necessarily. I myself, as a die hard movie addict, love to see foreign movies in their original language, but the general public usually won’t go that far. They enjoy watching movies but are just not passionate enough to learn how to read subtitles so as not to miss the action on the screen.

I’m french and in my country, we have the habit of dubbing foreign movies in french. And most people will go see the films in french because they feel kinda lost when they have to both watch the pictures and read the dialogue at the same time. The fact that they’re missing half of the actors’ uh, acting becomes irrelevant to them. Well, in the US, they don’t do as much dubbing as we do. Instead, they do remakes.

You might see it as laziness but it’s really a lack of passion. More like some people only listen to what they hear on the radio and won’t explore further.
