Funk-Fuelled First Trailer & Images For James Brown Biopic ‘Get On Up’

James Brown’s music continues to rightfully resonate through the industry today and we’ve got the first trailer for GET ON UP, the film that documents his life from extreme poverty to one of the most influential musicians of modern times.

The Godfather of Soul had a turbulent up-bringing and youth, with stints in and out of prison but first found some form of solace in music. GET ON UP is set to portray everything from the start to his latter years with Chadwick Boseman taking on the huge challenge of bringing the great man to life. Saying that, Boseman isn’t new to the big names after also successfully giving life to Jackie Robinson in 42.

This first trailer shows a lot of the setup and what we’ll expect, I just hope they find that good balance of real-life story and dramatising his unique life to really give it full gravitas. There’s a great supporting cast in the shape of Clyde Jones, Nelsan Ellis, Dan Aykroyd, Jill Scott, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, and Lennie James. It’s directed by THE HELP’S Tate Taylor and we can expect it on both sides of the Atlantic from August 1st.
