Keeley Hawes Joins ‘Doctor Who’ Series 8

ASHES TO ASHES and SPOOKS star Keeley Hawes has been announced as a major guest star for the upcoming eighth series of DOCTOR WHO by the BBC, which is currently shooting in Cardiff.

The actress will play a mysterious new villain called Ms. Delphox,  described in the BBC press release as ‘a powerful out of this world character with a dark secret’. The character will encounter Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi and his companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) on ‘a strange and puzzling planet‘.

Hawes is best known for her regular roles in SPOOKS (2002-04), ASHES TO ASHES (2008-10), and UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS (2010-12). She currently stars in the critically acclaimed second series of LINE OF DUTY on BBC Two, and has also previously provided the voice for Lara Croft in several TOMB RAIDER video games. Hawes says:

I am delighted to join Doctor Who and to be working with this incredible team. Ms Delphox is a great character and someone I’ve had a lot of fun playing”.

Showrunner Steven Moffat added some tantalizing hints:

Anyone watching Jed Mercurio’s amazing Line of Duty will know that Keeley Hawes is having one hell of year. And now it’s about to get even better as she achieves the greatest villainy yet attempted on Doctor Who: she plays a banker”.

The character will appear in the fifth episode of the series, which is written by regular DOCTOR WHO and SHERLOCK scribe Steve Thompson.

DOCTOR WHO Series 8 returns to BBC One later this year.

From an early age, Matt Dennis dreamt of one day becoming a Power Ranger. Having achieved that dream back in the noughties, he’s now turned his hand to journalism and broadcasting. Matt can often be found in front of a TV screen, watching his current favourite shows such as DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, SHERLOCK, DAREDEVIL, and THE WALKING DEAD, though he’s partial to a bit of vintage TV from yesteryear. Matt also co-presents the Geek Cubed podcast, which you can download from iTunes. It’s quite nice.
