‘Top Gun 2’ Sequel Still On The Cards

If you’ve spent the last eighteen years or so pining for more Maverick, well it looks like you might still be in luck. We’ve had rumours circulating about a TOP GUN sequel for a while now, and according to one of the original movie producers, Jerry Bruckheimer, the follow up’s plot is as modern and relevant as ever. Whilst speaking about his new book, Bruckheimer explains:

We’ve been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we’re getting closer and closer.

After a failed attempt by Tom Cruise and Don Simpson to develop the plot, progress was slowed by original director Tony Scott’s death in 2012. But it now looks like the project is back on track. Luckily Scott had done enough work with the plot before he died, which centres on drone aircraft. Will there still be a need for pilots, such as Maverick? Bruckheimer elaborates:

The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they’re not obsolete. They’re here to stay. It’s just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he’s very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture.”

No director is attached to the movie as of yet, which we’re calling TOP GUN 2 for now. We’ll update you as we hear more.
