I’ve always been a fan of David Duchovny’s work and so it’s great news that he’s staying on our TV screens as he’s signed up for 13-episode NBC series Aquarius, written by John McNamara who was also behind In Plain Sight and the vastly underrated Maria Bello-starring US version of Prime Suspect.
The Californication and The X-Files man will head back to 1960s LA to play a Police sergeant who’s got a number of problems and what’s described as a ‘complicated personal life’, as most cops appear to have these days – they need a back story after all. The the series, he is tracking down a minor criminal who’s luring vulnerable woman into his cult and who is this infamous fellow? It’s Charles Manson. We hear that currently it’s planned for a limited run, with a possible future looking towards the Tate-LaBianca murders but I’m enjoying American television that’s now leaning towards more rounded, specific and shorter TV series, rather ones that could run on forever. True Detective for example, mind-blowing.
Alongside this project, the rumours of a third THE X-FILES movie continue to circulate, and it very much depends on Fox as far as we can tell. Surely this is time for a Kickstarter campaign if there was ever one? Gillian Anderson is starring in NBC’s Crisis, working on her Sci-Fi book series and we’re about to see her for the second season of the BBC’s tremendous The Fall. There were previous rumours that creator Chris Carter had already written a script for the possible end of the trilogy, plus he’s out there with The After. Also, with Duchovny letting of Hank Moody after seven seasons of Californication, they’re all back in the mainstream and it’d be a great time to turn that X-Files rumour mill once again, I know I’d back it immediately. If we say it enough, it’ll happen; right?
We’ll bring you all the news of these projects as we get it!
