CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER has broken records in the US and Canada over the weekend. It is the highest-opening April movie ever, shunting previous holder FAST FIVE out of the way. ‘The Winter Soldier’ grossed a whopping $96.2 million over the three days to Sunday, compared to the fifth film in the ‘Fast and the Furious’ franchise, which bagged $86.2 million. The total worldwide box-office now stands at over $303 million, which is on its way to be the Captain America’s first outing of $370 million.

It’s a huge hit for Disney and Marvel and sets up the less known GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY in August, the studio’s next fare.

Elsewhere in the top ten, NOAH hung on to the number two spot, it’s cumulative gross now over the $70 million mark. DIVERGENT also continues to take in the cash at the number three spot with a total of $114 million in the bank, followed by GOD’S NOT DEAD, a new drama from Harold Cronk.
