There’s a new POINT BREAK movie coming, if you hadn’t heard. The original movie, which is now 23 years old (blimey), will be rehashed for a 2015 release by director Ericson Core, and it will star Gerard Butler as the Patrick Swayze character Bodhi and Luke Bracey (G.I. JOE: RETALIATION) as Johnny Utah.
Producer Broderick Johnson has been speaking to Collider about the film and the comparison to the much loved original.
“The script only shares in common with the original the characters and the nature of the character dynamic between Utah and Bodhi and their relationship,” says Johnson. “Everything else about the movie is different. The narrative of the movie is different.”
“While we do have surfing in the film, it is only a subset of the extreme sports that we deal with, including free-climbing, motocross, wing-suiting and so forth. The movie is being shot in 10 countries across the globe.”
“What we found fascinating about the original film, and is preserved in this, is the character work and the relationship between Bodhi and Utah, who are these two gentlemen on opposite sides of the law, and yet share a common bond,” he added. “That’s the one element that the two movies share.”
So, thank heavens, we can expect more lines like… “Nah, you pull it. Go ahead, Johnny, pull it,” referring to Bodhi’s refusal to pull his cord mid-sky dive. Filth.
POINT BREAK is expected in 2015.
