Antisocial Blu-ray Review

antisocialDirector: Cody Calahan

Cast: Michelle Mylett, Cody Ray Thompson, Adam Christie

Certificate: 18.

Running Time: 92 Minutes.

ANTISOCIAL is part REC, part CABIN FEVER with some elements of every generic horror film going thrown in. This melting pot of source material does not result in a coherent plot or film. There are brief glimpses to elements that could have been moulded into a better film however, they are fleeting and rare.

The story starts with some interesting comments on social media and how we are all ‘zombies’ to the phenomenon. It also highlights the dark side of the media with news reports debating cyber bullying which is obviously something of a relevant topic in today’s society – unfortunately these messages get lost pretty swiftly.

Sam, our female protagonist, gets dumped publicly before having to attend class despite it being  New Years Eve; personally I don’t know of any schools open during the holiday season. After class she is invited to the ‘big’ party on campus which seems to be just five people with one crate of beer.

What happens after this is incredibly jumbled and disjointed with the group hearing about a virus that has transferred from computers to humans. Yep that’s how silly the plot is, a computer virus manages to physically enter a human body just by them looking on the internet. Members of the group inevitably start to show signs of the disease and just like in CABIN FEVER, friends turn against each other.

ANTISOCIAL is tiresomely mediocre and will only infuriate horror fans with it’s inability to choose what sort of film it is trying to be. It will no doubt find itself a late night Horror Channel staple.

[usr=1] ANTISOCIAL is released on Blu Ray on Monday 14th April.
