Those at Sony working on the adaptation of Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave really needed a star to lead their film – and it seems they have found one in the form of Chloë Moretz. There is certainly stiff competition in the young adult cinema genre at the moment, with incredible success for other contenders, but with an alien twist and Moretz in the lead, this adaptation certainly does look promising.
THE 5TH WAVE is an alien invasion film in which four deadly attacks have left Earth almost destroyed, and a fifth wave is on its way. The film is led by 16-year-old Cassie who is desperate to save her younger brother before the inevitable happens but when she meets a young man, she learns that he may just be her last hope.
Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio, had this to say on the casting news:
“Chloe is the perfect Cassie and we’re excited to be building this movie around her. It’s been a great experience working with Chloe on several films, most recently ‘The Equalizer.’ She’s a phenomenal actress and embodies the heart, strength and determination that make Cassie such a compelling character. J Blakeson’s vision for the film is smart, edgy and faithful to the book, and will launch the franchise in a fresh and dynamic way.”
