Takashi Miike To Get Bloody Again With Yakuza Vampire Film

Having spent the bulk of the last few years directing musicals and action comedies, early fans of Takashi Miike will be pleased to know that the Japanese director is returning to his roots.

The twisted mind that brought us cult classics such as ICHI THE KILLER, AUDITION and VISITOR Q is going back to his dark beginnings with new film GOKUDO DAISENSO (YAKUZA APOCALYPSE: THE GREAT WAR OF THE UNDERWORLD). The film is described as being a Yakuza vampire movie. The story follows Yakuza underling Kageyama who is bitten by his vampire boss before dying, leaving Kageyama to reap revenge for his fallen master.

Miike had the following to say about his return to the violent, macabre world of film:

Say good-bye to wimpy and boring Japanese movies. Nobody asked me, but I’ve decided on my own to return to my roots and start a riot!

A vampire movie from the man behind the hideously creepy AUDTION is definitely an interesting project, one thing is for certain, I don’t think his vampires will be sparkly like Stephanie Meyer’s TWILIGHT creations.

The film started shooting last week and is scheduled for a 2015 release.
