‘Thomas Crown Affair 2’ Is Written Says McTiernan

Thomas Crown AffairSpeaking to Empire magazine, John McTiernan, the director of the classic DIE HARD, has announced he has written a sequel to his highly entertaining 1999 remake of THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR. The 199 effort saw Pierce Brosnan’s titular art thief crossing paths with insurance investigator, Rene Russo. But would happen in a sequel? McTiernan says:

Nebuchadnezzar had two lion statues commissioned in 1100BC: a male and a female. Alexander the Great took them when he conquered Persia. Mark Antony had them taken to Rome. Constantine moved them to Constantinople. And at some point the lioness went missing. The movie is about what happens when it turns up at an auction. By the way, it’s all bullshit; none of that ever happened.

The script is titled THOMAS CROWN AND THE MISSING LIONESS, but the project is far from being greenlit at any studio. I really hope this project does come to something, as it’s clear that 15 years on, McTiernan still has a lot of passion for the characters, especially if he’s willing to put so much effort into a script without any guarantee that it will be made.

It’s really a lot of fun and I hope I get the chance to make it.

We certainly hope so too. Even if that means recasting (although preferably not).
