The always-impressive Laura Linney is set to team up again with director Bill Condon and (Sir!) Ian McKellen for A SLIGHT TRICK OF THE MIND. Linney had previously worked with Condon on THE FIFTH ESTATE, KINSEY (2004) and a pilot of The Big C, and this one focuses on an older Sherlock Holmes, played be McKellen.
Set in 1947, Sherlock returns back after travelling in Japan after searching for a rare plant with impressive restoration capabilities. But, shockingly, when there he witnesses the very real devastation of a nuclear war. Once back in the UK, Holmes hides away in his remote seaside home with only his housekeeper (Linney) for company.
As Sherlock’s incredible mind beings to age, he ends up relying on his housekeepers son, Roger, to help him delve into an unsolved case.
The film will be based on Mitch Cullin’s book, with a screenplay adaptation by Jeffrey Hatcher. Condon, McKellen, and Linney will be joined by Hattie Morahan and will be filmed in the UK.
