Warner Bros. is continuing Hollywood’s tradition of giving films release dates before we know anything else about them, lining up HARRY POTTER spin-off FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM for an 18th November, 2016 release.
Potter author J.K. Rowling will handle the script, making her screenwriting debut. FANTASTIC BEASTS is an original story based on a textbook that appears in the first Potter novel.
The film will kick off a brand new series of HARRY POTTER-themed films featuring characters and creatures from the franchise’s mythology. Unfortunately for die-hard fans, none of these will feature Mr. Potter himself, nor many (if any) of the characters in the main film series.
Instead, FANTASTIC BEASTS (and possible future films) will focus on the textbook’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander. Fresh HARRY POTTER material is always a welcome sight, and with Rowling herself penning the screenplay, it’s sure to stay faithful to the original films.
