THN are big supporters of this charity, so we’re very happy to share the news that Universal Pictures (UK) are joining forces with The Royal British Legion, the nation’s largest Armed Forces charity, to promote a range of DVDs that will raise money for the charity, with 50p from each unit sold going to the Legion for one year.

To mark the announcement, ex-Serviceman gathered together outside The Cenotaph memorial in London in a range of Army uniforms to depict soldiers through the ages. Uniforms included First and Second World War infantry, alongside RAF and the Royal Navy and right through to current day combat attire. The ex-Serviceman depicted the scope of war that is represented throughout the range of Universal Pictures (UK) DVDs selected to raise money for the charity.

The Royal British Legion’s Director of Fundraising Charles Byrne said:

“The Royal British Legion was founded by British veterans in the aftermath of the First World War and a century on, those serving in the Armed Forces, veterans and their families still call on us for help with almost every aspect of daily life. We’re hugely grateful to be supported by Universal and to receive a donation from each DVD sold. The money raised will provide vital support to serving and ex-Service people, and their families, whether living with bereavement or disability, finding employment, or coping with financial stress – the same problems facing First World War veterans when they returned to the UK 100 years ago.”

The collection includes a diverse range of DVDs on conflicts such as the First World War, Second World War, through to conflicts in Saudi Arabia and Vietnam: ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, BIRDSONG, ONE OF OUR AIRCRAFT IS MISSING, SANDS OF IWO JIMA, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, JARHEAD, CHURCHILL* (Available on June 9th), GREEN ZONE and INGLORIOUS BASTERDS.

The collection is available to buy from today (12 May 2014)* from selected retailers and online for the price of £5 a DVD. Given the general public’s generous support for The Royal British Legion and the focus on commemorations throughout 2014, Universal hopes to raise a total donation of £25,000. Visit www.poppyshop.org.uk for more information and to purchase any of the films in the range.

A new range of specially packaged DVDs, about military conflicts past and present, released by Universal Pictures (UK). 50p from each DVD sold will be donated to The Royal British Legion Trading Limited, which gives its taxable profits to The Royal British Legion (Charity no. 219279) and Poppyscotland (Scottish Charity No. SC014096).
