Tom Hardy is set to star in Kathryn Bigelow’s Post 9/11 drama TRUE AMERICAN. The film is an adaptation of Anand Giridharadas’ non-fiction book The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas, the rights of which were acquired by Annapurna Pictures.
The True American tells the story of Bangladeshi Air Force officer Rais Uddin Bhuiyan, who immigrates to America looking to accomplish his dream of working in the technology industry. But days after 9/11, an avowed “American terrorist” named Mark Stroman, seeks revenge. He walks into a Dallas minimart where Bhuiyan had found temporary work and shot him, maiming and nearly killing him.
TRUE AMERICAN will focus on the making of both men in the lead up to their fateful encounter, and continue to follow their stories after the aftermath.
Hardy has an incredible resume that spans an incredible variety of roles. He most recently received rave reviews for LOCKE and is set to play Elton John in the biopic ROCKET MAN, as well as being set to play the infamous Kray twins in a film about the East End gangsters. With a busy schedule it quite obvious that Hardy is in high demand and we look forward to seeing him work alongside Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow.
