Starring in one of this week’s big releases, MALEFICENT, Angelina Jolie has been talking about her next potential role, Cleopatra. Whilst doing publicity for the latest Disney film the actress revealed to Edith Bowman on her BBC Radio Five Live show that she is very interested in taking the role of one of histories most famous women, and gave an update on how the project is coming along.
“We’ve been working on it. There’s been lots of different ideas of directors and lots of different discussions. The script has been written by Eric Roth, who is a dear friend and a brilliant writer.”
Ang Lee is one of the many directors to have had his name attached at some point, and whilst one has yet to be confirmed, it appears that Jolie is more then up for the challenge. She admitted that Cleopatra is a very complicated character, stating that she would need a lot of time to prepare, though given the stellar job she did of making Maleficent so mesmerising we at THN are certain she’s got what it takes. The A-List actress also rather cryptically implied that were she to get the role it may be her last:
“She’s complicated, it’s complicated to get this one right. I think we’re getting there. It’s getting close. I imagine the preparation for it is going to be big. It’s one of those [roles] that you think maybe that’s the one you put everything into and that’s where you end it, that’s where you finish – in a great way! What could you do beyond that one?”
So what do you think? Can you see Jolie as Cleopatra? Are you ready for her to bow out of the spotlight?

Yes, please make this one! I’d kind of given up hope on this project and thought it was not going to happen anymore. But I’ve been hoping for it ever since Jolie’s name got attached to it years ago. She would be marvellous in that role.

We’re with you on that Adam. Jolie is one of the most charasmatic actresses ever to have lived and is surely a perfect fit for the complicated Cleopatra.
