Denzel Washington May Be Part Of ‘The Magnificent Seven’

'Safe House' Premiere - New York

We know there’s plans afoot for a remake of classic western THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, and by the looks of it Denzel Washington may be taking a starring role.

If the project goes ahead as planned, Washington will team up again with director Antoine Fuqua. The pair have already worked together on TRAINING DAY and forthcoming series remake for the big screen, THE EQUALIZER.

The original 1960 film featured Yul BrynnerSteve McQueenCharles BronsonJames CoburnRobert VaughnBrad Dexter and Horst Buchholz as the seven gunmen hired to protect a Mexican village from bandits (led by the excellent Eli Wallach). The new script is penned by Nic Pizzolatto (True Detective) and John Lee Hancock (THE BLIND SIDE). Both Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt have previously been on the wish-list.

Quite whether the world needs a revisioning of THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is open to debate. Even the lure of Denzel is going to be hard to pitch against the pedigree of the 60s cast.
