Following news that NBC Universal have tied Tom Hardy and his production partner into a two year deal, competitor Sony are raising the stakes with a genuine major league signing. Known for their intelligent and diverse subject matter in such films as THE IDES OF MARCH, ARGO and most recently THE MONUMENTS MEN, George Clooney and Grant Heslov will generate a range of comedy and drama material for the small screen distributor via their company Smokehouse Pictures.

Smokehouse migrated its cinematic operation from Warner Bros to Sony in 2009 and this latest move displays further confidence between the two parties. THE MONUMENTS MEN was a rare critical blip for Clooney and Heslov but hopefully this deal points the way toward a raft of superlative programming. It’ll also be interesting to see how Smokehouse’s ardent political concerns will be reflected in the medium.
