He’s best known as a Marvel Norse god. Now Tom Hiddleston is about to swap Valhalla for Louisiana as country and western singer Hank Williams. Adding to this surprise development, Hiddleston will also take the mic to warble along to such hits as Your Cheatin’ Heart and Hey Good Lookin’. Movie stars have risen to this challenge before, with Joaquin Phoenix and Jeff Bridges growling out the standards in WALK THE LINE and CRAZY HEART, but it’s safe to say this is a significant departure for the Eton-educated actor.
Chronicling the customary mix of fame, heartbreak and ultimately tragedy that any biopic demands, I SAW THE LIGHT is based on the book by Colin Escott. Set to shoot in October, it’s written and directed by Marc Abraham (FLASH OF GENIUS) and part-produced by Brett Ratner (HERCULES). Hiddleston is currently filming as the decidedly-English sounding Sir Thomas Sharpe in Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK and is attached to the upcoming JG Ballard adaptation HIGH RISE.
