‘Captain Nemo’ Script Sells

Miles Millar Alfred GoughWriters Alfred Gough and Miles Millar may be best known for their writing on the hit Superman show Smallville, but the duo responsible for the screenplays of SHANGAHI NOON and I AM NUMBER FOUR are returning to the big screen with CAPTAIN NEMO. Their latest spec script has just been bought by Sony and will give us a new take on the classic Jules Verne character of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea fame.

Joe Roth and Palak Patel are producing, which should give the project a lot of momentum given the fact they currently have the box office success MALEFICENT in cinemas and are now working on the sequel to Tim Burton’s billion dollar success ALICE IN WONDERLAND, titled THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS. Gough and Millar will also take on executive producer roles.

Sony may wish to act quickly on their recent acquisition as Disney are also working on an adaptation of TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, although that project seems to have run aground since the departure of David Fincher over budgetary reasons. Still, multiple films with similar themes have never got in the way of Hollywood before, as evidenced by the double dose of THE JUNGLE BOOK coming our way.
