Simon Pegg On Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ Departure

Marvel Studios’ upcoming ANT-MAN has received quite a bit of negative publicity of late, after it was revealed that Edgar Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD) had exited the project due to disputes over films the screenplay. A little while after many other directors passed on taking over the reigns on Wright’s passion project, it was announced that Peyton Reed (THE BREAK UP, YES MAN, New Girl) would be adopting ANT-MAN.

It would be quite an understatement to say that this news disappointed film fans across the globe, after years of looking forward to a quirky and unique superhero outing from a fantastic director. It’s especially devastating given that Kevin Feige has stated on many occasions that the project only exists because of Wright, and his dedication to bringing Marvel’s smallest hero to the big screen. Now Wright’s close friend and frequent collaborator Simon Pegg has given his opinion on the highly publicised break up, check it out below:

‘I Feel lucky that I got to read Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s Ant-Man script’.

‘Daring, fun, funny, and hugely exciting; shame we won’t see it’.

‘I think it’s a terrible shame. I get why perhaps it’s happened. Maybe they want a particular thing in line with a particular other thing, but if you hire a director who has a particular vision, you’ve got to expect him or her to make a ‘such and such film’. ‘An Edgar Wright film.’ That’s what that script was and it was interesting. The characters had a real journey. I can’t really say too much about it because obviously it’s not my thing, but it’s their loss [Laughs]’.

It’s safe to say that the world shares Pegg’s sentiment and belief that Marvel have made a huge mistake. With the excellent cast and (apparently) brilliant script Wright had put in place, it certainly is a great shame we will never see his eight year vision brought to life.
