Well this is definitely one that we weren’t expecting. With all the effort that Disney have gone to in order to fully milk their animated classics for live action material, this is something that I didn’t see coming. The Disney Channel have produced a brand new television movie that will essentially combine elements of MALEFICENT and ALICE AND WONDERLAND with High School Musical.
The upcoming film due for a 2015 air date will show audiences yet another new take on classic fairy tale characters in a modern context. DESCENDANTS (not the one starring Shailene Woodley unfortunately) stars the evil offspring of infamous Disney characters such as Maleficent, Jafar, Cruella Deville and the Evil Queen. This is definitely a unique and original take on these classic Disney characters for better or worse, and if nothing else it will definitely be an interesting watch. The Descendents is a hot property for the studio, with Disney Descendents games and other spin-offs popping up everywhere.
DESCENDANTS stars Booboo Stewart (THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) as Jafar’s son, Cameron Boyce (EAGLE EYE, GROWN UPS 2) as Cruella Deville’s son, Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie) as Maleficent’s daughter and Sofia Carson (Faking It) as the Evil Queen’s daughter.
