Game of Thrones reached its climax last week but we still haven’t heard the last of Westeros as the world of George R. R. Martin had a very important guest earlier today, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She and her husband Prince Philip are currently on a tour of Northern Island and decided to stop in at one of the set locations of the popular HBO show.

Game of Thrones is filmed in several locations across the globe however an impressive 75% of filming is actually done across Northern Island. Given the show’s popularity it has obviously also given the local economy a healthy boost with fans from all walks of life flocking to the picturesque island for a peak at the setting of their beloved fantasy series.

Arguably one of the most famous visitors to the set it was not revealed whether the Queen or Prince Philip watch the show themselves but they did seem to take an active interest in having a look at various costumes and settings. All fans know that the most iconic set piece for the programme is The Iron Throne, a throne made out of steel and swords. Most people can only dream about getting an in-the-flesh peek at the throne and are more than a little jealous that our Queen has been given such an all access tour, these fans were even more upset when Queen Elizabeth declined a sit upon the throne. It was obviously missing the several layers of cushioning to which she has become accustomed to.

Whilst visiting the set she also got to chat with several of the cast which include, Lena Headey, Kit Harington, Rose Leslie, Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner who all looked distinctly different to how we’re used to seeing them. From the live feed that Sky News showed it would appear that Headey was trying to coerce the Queen into having a quick sit down but the Royal Matriarch was having none of it. Of course the internet being what it is means that within minutes of her decline some brave soul had Photo shopped a frame up what it might have looked like, see below:
