Shane Black To Reboot 80s Classic ‘Predator’

Before the panic sets in…this reboot actually has the potential to be great.  20th Century Fox has enlisted LETHAL WEAPON writer Shane Black to write up a treatment for a new PREDATOR film.  There is a massive emphasis that this will NOT be a remake but a reboot.

Fred Dekker, the writer of 1980’s classic MONSTER SQUAD and long time friend of Black will write the script, whilst Black is attached to direct.  John Davis who produced the original is also confirmed to produce, so it really will be a 1980’s affair.  Hopefully that 80s tone will translate to the finished film.

PREDATOR was released in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwazenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura.  The trio of muscle played commandos sent to a South American jungle on a mission only to end up playing a cat and mouse game with an invisable but deadly alien enemy.  The film is a firm favourite among many and spawned two sequels, PREDATOR 2 and PREDATORS.  The PREDATOR alien was so popular with fans it spawned two sequels, AVP: ALIEN VS. PREDATOR, ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM and there is a rumour of a third in the making.

Shane Black is no stranger to the original, he was highly sought after to polish up the script but Black was busy working on the scripts for LETHAL WEAPON and MONSTER SQUAD.  Black was however swayed by a small role once the film was ready to shoot.  You might remember him as Hawkins who told  “that” joke.
