When the news broke that studio Twentieth Century Fox had decided to fund a reboot of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s eighties classic PREDATOR there was a mixed reception. In today’s reboot happy climate fans were disappointed that they would once more have to sit through either a shot for shot remake of the original or another origin story. They were however on the whole happy with the chosen director, Shane Black of IRON MAN 3 and KISS KISS BANG BANG fame.
Collider have managed to get hold of the man who is to be at the helm of the project who has assured that the film will not be a reboot, as he himself doesn’t really get them, but instead a rather ‘inventive sequel’. He had the following to say:
“[It won’t be a reboot] as far as Fred and I are concerned anyway. Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine? [I like] the idea of expanding and exploring the existing PREDATOR mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”
Exactly what existing mythology has of course yet to be determined but given the franchise has several spin off novels, comics, games etc. there is definitely a vast array of material that can be shifted through. Of course know that Black is onboard the bigger question is clearly whether or not it will star Robert Downey Jr and be set at Christmas.
This sequel would also easily slot into the PREDATOR universe; films that already exist as they don’t really follow on from one another. Yes there is a brief mention of Arnie’s character Dutch during the end third of PREDATOR 2, but most recent outing, PREDATORS which starred Adrien Brody was completely stand alone.

not true. They completely mention the entire first film in Predators. They acknowledge dutch and that is how brody’s character nows how to defeat the predator. its more of a sequel than predator 2 in all respects.
