Del Toro Announces ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Release Date

It’s happening, it’s actually happening! Lovers of monster movies can now rejoice as Guillermo Del Toro announces PACIFIC RIM 2 with a specific release date of 7th April 2017. The original film grossed $411 million worldwide during its theatrical release last year, making it the 183rd highest grossing film of all time. Del Toro took to Youtube via the official Legendary channel to make the announcement of the upcoming sequel while still in the editing room for his upcoming horror CRIMSON PEAK.

If news of a sequel, which Del Toro is working on with writers Zak Penn and Travis Beacham, wasn’t enough then how about news of an animated series and the continuation of the comic book series? It certainly seems as though Del Toro is more than passionate about the continuation of his monster franchise but this is also a bit of a double-edged sword. With Del Toro now tied up until 2017, it looks unlikely that HELLBOY 3 will be appearing anytime soon. Still, we can’t have our cake and eat it too unfortunately.

PACIFIC RIM was everything I had hoped it would be, so I await a sequel with a lot of excitement. However, it’s talk of an animated series that really has me excited. The HELLBOY animated films were a lot of fun so I hope Del Toro keeps a similar style to those.
