Kristen Stewart Is Cut From ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Sequel

Kristen Stewart fans look away now – the actress, who played the lead in 2012’s SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, will not be returning for the sequel. This rather large shake-up has been revealed amidst claims that the creators have chosen to go down the spin-off route rather than the sequel road.

Although Stewart is no longer attached both Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron will be reprising their roles from the original. The spin-off will see Hemsworth’s Huntsman take over protagonist duties with director Frank Darabont thought to be very close to signing up for the project. If he does agree to helm the project this would be his first feature film since 2007’s THE MIST (has it really been that long?).

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN wasn’t necessarily a bad film; a little overlong and whilst fully capable within the realm of indie projects Stewart didn’t really have the right mentality to pull off being at the centre of the story. Released so close to her last TWILIGHT outing also caused her to get a lot of ridicule and accusations that she was really just playing Bella Swan in armour.

The release of the first film was unfortunately overshadowed when the tabloids got a hold of a personal story involving Stewart and the film’s director Rupert Sanders. Now that we know that neither are involved in this new spin-off this time around the film should get judged purely on its content alone.

THE HUNTSMAN is pencilled for a 2016 release.
