‘The Flash’ Gets Head Start With Online Leak

Grant Gustin Flash

It wasn’t due to air till October, but The CW has a potential disaster on its hands with a premature debut of The Flash pilot episode online, courtesy of some nefarious character. The second attempt to craft a show around the lightning fast superhero (and featuring original series star John Wesley Shipp in a supporting role), it has nevertheless received a positive verdict from those brave enough to watch it, with praise for its non-fanboy accessibility, special effects and main performance from Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. Uproxx commented:

Gustin has been the subject of some anxiety, but he works. Barry is a bit like ’60s-era Peter Parker here; nerdy, wanting to do the right thing, not entirely sure what the right thing is. The cast in general is pretty engaging, but Gustin is a good lead for this show.

Weaker aspects appear to relate to humour and the tying of continuity to Arrow, via shared writer/producer Greg Berlanti. Speculation is rife that the production was deliberately let out in order to generate decent advance word. There are pros and cons to such a strategy, but whatever the deal, DC can breathe a mighty quick sigh of relief for the time being.
