Michael Caine, Jane Fonda And Harvey Keitel Star In ‘Youth In Venice’

Michael Caine, Jane Fonda, Harvey Keitel

A truly diverse cast has been assembled by director Paolo Sorrentino for YOUTH IN VENICE, the follow up to his critically-lauded Italian odyssey THE GREAT BEAUTY. Boasting two of the world’s best jobbing actors, Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel, the story concerns a pensionable film director and composer who go on a break to the mountains, where presumably some stunning scenery will fuse with meditations on life and art. The subject matter may have less discerning cinemagoers rolling their eyes, but the pairing of these performers from very different backgrounds should generate enough electricity to power the French Riviera come festival season.

Sorrentino hasn’t skimped on the rest of the cast either, with Jane Fonda making one of her sporadic returns to the big screen. Rachel Weisz, last seen romancing the elderly with Bill Nighy in Page Eight, and Paul Dano (PRISONERS) round off the talent-heavy roster. Shooting is currently taking place in the title city before production heads to Switzerland then England. Those lucky people. We’ll find out if the results are profound or pretentious when the movie comes out in 2015.
