Ryan Murphy has given the world two extremely popular shows which are at polar opposites of the genre scheme. He first helped birth Glee the show that made song mash-up cool again, although tackling some tough teen topics the show, especially the first series had a very sickly sweet taste. The creator followed this with American Horror Story, a show that makes you sick for far more distressing reasons.

Now onto its fourth season American Horror Story will continue its tradition of having a brand new story and set of characters. Each year several cast members return to play completely new personas, the latest outing Freak Show sees fan favourites Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange return. Lange has stated that this will be her last outing for the show and this time around she’ll be heading up a dying American ‘freak’ show set in the year 1952.

New additions to the cast include Michael Chiklis who is set to play a strongman, and Wes Bentley will also feature in a two-part arc. Last seen in films THE HUNGER GAMES and PIONEER Bentley’s character shares a dark secret with Kathy Bates’ character that will turn up around the Halloween aired episodes to cause trouble for the travelling troupe.
