The second trailer for Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut UNBROKEN has just landed and we’ll tell you what; anyone who doesn’t yet know the name Jack O’Connell is going to be hearing about little else in the coming months. The film, adapted for the screen by the Coen Brothers, is the harrowing true-life survival story of Louis Zamperini (O’Connell), an Olympian and war hero who along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
The trailer footage of Zamperini growing up, with C.J. Valleroy as the younger version of O’Connell, looks great as does the footage of him as an Olympian. However, where the movie looks set to come into its’ own is the prisoner-of-war survival story. We know O’Connell is a star in the making after breaking out in Skins and playing the lead role in 2013’s prison drama STARRED UP but, if the trailer is anything to go by, UNBROKEN is the platform for O’Connell to really make a name for himself. Some beautiful looking scenes are on show here as well as a fabulous soundtrack. The score comes from Alexandre Desplat who also created the music for THE KING’S SPEECH, ARGO and ZERO DARK THIRTY amongst many others and sounds as moving and uplifting as we’ve come to expect from him.
I think it’s safe to say UNBROKEN is one we are definitely looking forward to seeing! Here’s the newly released trailer now:
UNBROKEN opens 26th December and co-stars Garrett Hedlund, Jai Courtney, Alex Russell, Domhnall Gleeson, Luke Treadaway, Vincenzo Amato and John D’Leo.
