Tonight sees 24: Live Another Day come to its conclusion. We at THN have been privileged enough to have already seen tonight’s show. It’s a good one and, without being too spoilery, you may want to have some tissues at the ready. Ahead of the show’s finale THN managed to cross paths with Glenn Morshower, a star of the previous seasons, to get his take on the new show. Morshower played Agent Aaron Pierce, everyone’s favourite secret service agent. We spoke to him at London Film and Comic Con and he seemed pretty pleased to find that his on-screen persona came fifth in our 24 best characters in 24 feature, and he even shared something very special with us.
What was it like being involved in a show like 24?
It was a dream come true for me. Everything I believe in is expressed through that character, so much so that anyone who knows Aaron, knows me. I’ve never played a character that is more like me in my life. The reason for that is when they first created the character he wasn’t supposed to be anything. He was supposed to be in two episodes. Meaningless. They weren’t even going to get to know who he was. That’s why he was very generic at first, and then they saw the chemistry between me and Dennis and started expanding it. They had no idea who he was so they sat me down and started asking ‘what are you interested in?’ For me it’s power, integrity and the power of the spoken word. They loved it and asked if I’d stay. I asked ‘you want to pay me to play me?’ I grew up in Texas so this voice is Aaron’s voice, though his is a little deeper. It’s how I was raised to speak, with that accent. I had a bulk of the character when I went in and that’s what happened. It’s very special to me to do something that I really am, it meant a lot to me.
The scenes with Pierce and Palmer are beautiful.
We went on to become fantastic friends, and are to this day.
Are you watching the new series?
Yes and I’m still trying to get my head around, getting used to Chloe being all gothic. I like it (the new show) very much.
Chloe does seem to have gone a little GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
One of the things I used to do on set is… I like to write limericks. I wrote one for every character. So here’s a limerick I wrote for Kiefer, if I can remember. There once was a fella named Bauer, Who had an unbelievable power, Even Chloe O’Brien, he kept her from dying, who knows what’ll happen next hour. Kiefer really loved that one.
Are you still in touch with Kiefer?
Yes, very much so. He’s one of the best men I’ve ever worked with. Very, very sweet, very talented and a real die-hard work ethic. He came to set everyday ready to play ball for keeps. So anyone that wasn’t in that position had to keep-up. All of our series regulars were used to it, so when a guest star came in they had to bring it, you’d better be ready. That was probably one of the most intense shows for a guest star to do for that very reason. The nice thing was, doing a show like that, you become family, you have too. The difficulty came in the fact that it was a huge commitment, we couldn’t gain or lose more than a couple of pounds a year, hair the same length, facial hair the same length, no physical changes for ten months out of the year.
So no babies for the ladies then.
(laughs) not unless it was written into the script, and I think even Jack would have a hard time explaining that.
24: Live Another Day concludes tonight on Sky One from 9pm. Don’t miss it!
