New Still From ‘The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies’

It’s only the second image we’ve seen from the third part of THE HOBBIT trilogy, but it’s probably enough for fans to get excited about. In the shot we see Sir Ian McKellen and Luke Evans, probably on their guard as Smaug intends to attack Lake Town after the events of the last movie. The film was retitled THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES in April of this year, changing from THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN. Jackson argued the change was due to the decision to make 3 films instead of 2, thus Bilbo already being “there”, but I’d guess it was to include the word “battle” so as to appeal to a wider audience.

The Hobbit films have both been decent so far, but the clunky extension still feels unnecessary. This will no doubt put an end to the franchise for now, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see versions based around Tolkien’s other work to arrive. After all, whoever thought we would get another STAR WARS film?

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES is released in the UK on 12th December and in the US on 17th December. It stars Ian McKellen, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly and Cate Blanchett.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
