Legendary, the company who brought this years rather slick GODZILLA reboot to life, took to San Diego Comic Con’s hallowed Hall H to spill what’s next on their agenda. Many had been hoping that there might be some JURASSIC WORLD footage but the studio chose to focus on it’s old school monsters.

The panel kicked off with a video from director Gareth Edwards confirming that he will be back to direct the GODZILLA sequel, he just has ‘a little sci-fi film’ to finish first. Edwards was announced recently as being the director of the first STAR WARS spinoff movie, so it seems once that’s out of the way he’ll be back in control of the giant iguana. He also shared a clip of Godzilla atop Alcatraz Island as a thank you to everyone that has made the film a worldwide success.

The first film has the ancient creature take on Munta, but as we all know (from reading THN Godzilla Guide) there are a multitude of foes for him to fight. Whilst keeping his enemy a secret for most of the ad campaign for GODZILLA, it seems that the studio have no such issues second time around as they strongly alluded that Godzilla will have his work cut out this time as he takes on three famous adversaries; Rodan, Ghidorah and Mothra. With creatures as varied as a pterosaur, a three-headed dragon (or hydra), and a giant moth, the effects team are well and truly going to have their work cut-out for them.

There was also mention of another of Godzilla’s battle opponents, King Kong, who will be getting a brand new film. The film, titled SKULL ISLAND will in no way be related to Peter Jackson’s epic KING KONG, and will see the action confined to the titular island. Set for release in 2016, the film will focus on the inhabitants of the mythical island, teaser footage screened showcased a pterodactyl, some monkeys and then right at the end a rather large chap who could only be Kong.
