Marvel’s upcoming ANT-MAN is an incredibly anticipated adaptation, that seems to have been subject to more negative publicity than the studio is used to these days. After the highly controversial exit of Edgar Wright earlier this year, the film struggled to find a new director that would be willing to step aboard another man’s passion project.
Luckily, after scouring the comedy talent pool, Marvel Studios hired Peyton Reed (THE BREAK UP, New Girl) to take over the reigns and bring their pint-sized hero to the big screen. With the film gaining a new director in Peyton Reed, a script tweaking from Adam McKay (ANCHORMAN) and a Middle Earth warrior in the form of Evangeline Lilly, things looked set for next months shoot. However, more bad news arrived recently, when it was revealed that Patrick Wilson had also abandoned ship due to a ‘scheduling conflict’.
Despite these (major) setbacks however, ANT-MAN is finally looking like it’s back on track and Paul Rudd is here to reassure us all with his unwavering passion, enthusiasm and faith in the film. You can read a brand new interview with the actor from SDCC below.
When the projects production issues were mentioned Rudd stated:
‘Well, it’s been…it was pretty bumpy for sure’.
The THIS IS 40 star was then quizzed on Edgar Wright’s departure:
‘I’m really sad about it. Edgar’s brilliant, and Edgar brought me on. Edgar’s my friend. I mean, I still talk to Edgar just about every day, almost’.
However, Rudd remains excited now that Reed is officially on-board:
‘[The film has] opened up and grown in such a new and exciting way. And I also know [new director] Peyton [Reed], and Peyton is a really smart, really passionate visionary when it comes to this kind of stuff. He’s a comic book fan, he knows the world, this was his 20th Comic-Con. So while it wasn’t terra firma there for awhile, my enthusiasm and excitement and passion is certainly there for where we’re at now, and what Peyton’s gonna do’.
With Marvel Studios’ virtually flawless track record thus far, it’s hard to imagine that ANT-MAN will stray very far from their established and successful formula. With GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY looking like another major hit for the studio, Marvel have more than shown their ability to market obscure properties to mainstream audiences. It’s also worth mentioning that ANT-MAN is building an absolutely stellar cast, with Paul Rudd standing tall amongst the most inspired castings in superhero history.
