Simon West Wants ‘Con Air’ Sequel To Be In Space?

Nicholas Cage. He’s a rather odd character. He somehow manages to both be a phenomenal actor and an incredibly rubbish one. His CV sees him straddle the serious dramas as well as the over-the-top popcorn fodder flicks. He also has a vast array of artificial hair.

One of his most iconic so-bad-its-good roles is that of Cameron Poe in CON AIR. Directed by Simon West the film saw a group of convicts take over an airplane (hence the name). Cage’s character was the unlikely hero as he took down a whole heap of adversaries. So beloved by fans talks of a sequel have been floating around for some time though it is only recently that West has offered his thoughts on the direction of the sequel. From what he had to say he is clearly just as ‘out-there’ as Cage with him expressing a desire to set it in space. That’s right in space, ‘Con Apollo’ anyone? See what he had to say below:

“I would do it if it was completely turned on its head. Con Air in space, for example – a studio version where they’re all robots or the convicts are reanimated as super-convicts, or where the good guys are bad guys and the bad guys are good guys. Something shocking. If it was clever writing it could work.”

If this rather outlandish idea was to ever come to fruition just think of the cross-over they could have with MACHETE (Danny Trejo was on the plane); ‘Machete Kills Con Apollo…In Space’. Or better yet how about an Easter egg in the next GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY where we see a Nic Cage trying to capture Rocket so he can upgrade his daughter’s bunny rabbit?
