Kevin Feige Drops ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’ Hints

Guardians

Unless you yourself have spent the last fortnight in the furthest reaches of the universe you will have heard about the phenomenally successful GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The film proved so popular before it was released that it was granted a sequel before the general public had chance to step foot inside the cinemas to see it. Clearly Marvel were very happy with the product that James Gunn had created and given the reaction the film has received we can see why.

The sequel is set for release in July 2017 which may seem like ages away for those of us clamouring for more of the awesome five but work is already underway to bring the fans the sequel that they want. Kevin Feige recently spoke to IGN about what may or may not happen in future installments. Be warned the below features BIG spoilers regarding the current film so please only read-on if you have seen the movie.

The first thing that Feige addressed was the elephant in the room – Star Lord’s father. At the start of the film Peter Quill’s mother tells him that his father was ‘an angel’ who would be back for him. We learn through-out the film that Yondu was originally hired by his dad to deliver the young boy to him with it inferred that the dad is a jack-ass. At the end of the film Quill himself learns that his father wasn’t ‘terran’ and instead is some sort of ancient being the Nova haven’t seen before. When asked how important the identity of the unknown father was he had the following to say:

“I think it’s pretty important, I think there’s a reason we seeded it at the very end of the film like that. I think that would certainly be part of a next Guardians adventure. Certainly, that would be part of it.”

The topic then moved onto returning characters, most notably Karen Gillan’s Nebula, who does a T-1000 style spaceship hijacking during the end fight sequence. Will she return for another battle with Saldana’s Gamora? Feige was a little reluctant to confirm or deny any returns only saying:

“I would say any character that doesn’t overtly perish is certainly fair game to come back. If people know the comic lore, Nebula has a lot of varying different roles to play over the course of a lot of different titles in the comics. We have somebody like Karen, and you have a look that is so weird and so great. I think that’s something we’d all like to see again.”

Whether Nebula, a character James Gunn likened to the Bobba Fett of the piece, will return will surely hinge on whether Gillan is willing to shave her head again. It’s obviously very early days yet but we at THN are very excited about what the future may bring. Hurry up 2017!
