Curtains On Enthusiasm – Larry David Heads To Broadway

Larry David

Details have been revealed about the much-mooted Broadway debut of popular curmudgeon and co-creator of Seinfeld Larry David. Fish In The Dark, written by David, showcases the Curb Your Enthusiasm star in a role that shockingly isn’t a million miles from what he does best. Throw in a plot, so to speak, about a family bereavement and you have all the ingredients for a comedy blacker than Marilyn Manson’s duvet cover. Unless he’s planning a deviation into dramatic territory (highly unlikely but we can’t rule it out) this looks to be more of the trademark Larry-based calamity, though the chance to see this brilliant performer spew venom live makes the production a hot ticket from the off.

David famously put himself on the New York stage in a fictionalized capacity opposite David Schwimmer in The Producers via Curb, so Fish In The Dark has him putting his kahunas on the block in a big way. He’s no stranger to risk – his post-Seinfeld movie SOUR GRAPES was a flop, though he had respectable reviews for recent HBO film Clear History.

Superproducer Scott Rudin will bring the play to the boards, with Anna D. Shapiro directing. Further announcements about the remaining cast should soon follow.
