Life To Be A ‘Cabaret’ For Emma Stone

Emma Stone

The part of Sally Bowles has long been associated with Hollywood actresses. Performers as diverse as Jennifer Jason Leigh, Natasha Richardson and most recently Michelle Williams have donned the distinctive bowler hat and stockings for an image that was made an icon of cinema by Liza Minnelli in the 1972 film of CABARET. Now after much speculation THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN star Emma Stone is in the closing stages of negotiation to take over the stage show from Williams in November.

Relaunched in April by the powerhouse theatrical combination of former Donmar Warehouse boss/SKYFALL director Sam Mendes (who previously staged it with Jane Horrocks) and Rob Marshall (CHICAGO), the production also features Alan Cumming as the ghoulish MC who presides over the action as the Nazis encroach into the Weimar Republic in the run up to the Second World War. The Kander and Ebb musical is based on the writings of Christopher Isherwood and staged at Studio 54 by The Roundabout Theatre Company.

With this prestigious role about to go under her belt and a burgeoning collaboration with Woody Allen via the upcoming MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT, tomorrow surely belongs to Stone.
