THN have heard that Game Of Thrones actress has been cast to play ‘Frankenstein‘ writer Mary Shelley in the upcoming film, MARY SHELLEY’S MONSTER, with Jeremy Irvine set to star as Shelley’s poet husband Percy. They’re joined by Taissa Farmiga of American Horror Story, who takes on the role of Shelley’s step-sister Claire Clairmont.
The film is written by Deborah Baxtrom who has previously wrote the 7-part series Living With Frankenstein. The film tracks the young writer as she writes her now-classic Gothic novel and battles with her ‘monstrous’ alter-ego who promises fame and fortune at a very personal cost.
It’s directed by Coky Giedroyc who was also behind Gothic TV series Penny Dreadful and 2009’s TV Movie Wuthering Heights with Tom Hardy. Producer Rose Ganguzza had this to say:
“[The film is] the story of the most extraordinary 19th century teenage heroine told in a visceral, sexy, contemporary way. Our film is not a period drama. It is a story of youth that transcends time, a Gothic romance, a love triangle that involves a dark passenger and we are tremendously excited to have such an exciting cast on-board this wonderful project.”
This is interestingly the second film announced recently that takes on Shelley, with Elle Fanning also set to star as the legendary novelist in A STORM IN THE STARS, find more news on that project by heading here.
