For a long time, it felt as if Marvel would never do anything as risky as transfer one of their lesser known properties from the page to the silver screen, but after the recent out-of-this-world success of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Marvel now have the public’s assurance, confidence and repertoire to essentially crank out whatever they want and expect a critical, if not financial success. Perhaps this is why news has finally surfaced that THE INHUMANS film is finally moving forward and may be hitting our screens sooner than we think.
The other day, we reported that Vin Diesel dropped a hint that many assumed linked him with THE INHUMANS. With this recent news in mind, it looks as if Diesel wasn’t just dropping a cheekily hopeful tweet. No, instead, it looks as if he might very well have a part in this new super-powered ensemble, with the script already completed and written by the relatively unknown Joe Robert Cole.
According to Collider, the folks over at Marvel plan on handling this the same way they handled GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, with the script being written in-house, a talent-search for the filmmakers and when the director and the like become attached the project, the script is then re-written with their own flair in mind. It’s important to note that Marvel are very public about the fact that they choose their directors based on the visions they have for their properties, which is partially why they may be so darn successful.
For those that aren’t familiar with THE INHUMANS, they’re a group of test experiments created by the Kree (yes, that’s the same Kree you saw in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) based on the Homo-Sapien genome. The Kree, in the comics, have a scientific outpost on Uranus and upon discovering sentient life on nearby Earth had genetic potential invested in it by the alien Celestials (a race of superbeings that created life and death – two of which were also briefly mentioning in GUARDIANS) decided to utilise this potential. These experiments existed with two goals in mind, to research possible ways to prevent their own evolutionary stagnation and to create well… a super-powered army to use against their galactic foes. Whilst their experiments were successful in creating a selection of super-humans with extraordinary abilities, the Kree abandoned their work due to prophecy that predicted that continuation of the experimentation would eventually lead to an anomaly who would destroy the Kree Supreme Intelligence.
The experiments lead to the creation of the likes of Black Bolt, Medusa, Carnak, Triton, Gorgon, and more.
So, if they decide to stick with the origins, it looks as if THE INHUMANS may be linked to the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Let’s hope it shares its financial and critical success! We’re excited for such a prospect over here at THN, but we’re keen on hearing your thoughts too, leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
