Familiar Marvel Characters Possibly Appearing In ‘Ant-Man’

Ant-Man.

After the resounding success of Marvel Studios GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY two weeks ago, audiences have never been more enthusiastic about upcoming releases from the powerhouse studio. There had initially been some doubt that the Disney-owned studio could effectively translate obscure properties into box office hits, however that has all changed ever since Star-Lord and his crew blasted onto cinema screens.

Although next years ANT-MAN has hit more than a few speed bumps along the road of pre-production, it finally seems as if the film is back on track. However, we may now have a few more juicy details on one of the many factors that lead to the much-publicised departure of the projects original director, Edgar Wright. When the break-up between the studio and Wright first occurred, it was rumoured that Marvel’s insistence on including ‘franchise characters’ from the existing MCU was partially to blame. Well now, it appears that those claims were correct, as ANT-MAN may very well feature more than one familiar character from the established Marvel Universe.

CAPTAIN AMERICA fans (myself included) will be happy to hear that at least one iteration of ANT-MAN’s screenplay includes cameo appearances from Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), Arnim Zola (Toby Jones) and finally…a young version of Alexander Pierce (played by Robert Redford in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER). Although the report cautions that this scene could have been taken out of the script since it was initially written, it does seem confident that it is still in there. If this was indeed one of the reasons that Wright departed the film, then it would be strange for Marvel to take the scene out of the revised script anyway.

Let’s hope that these very interesting cameo appearances make it into the final product, as it would be a fantastic way to tie ANT-MAN into the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has also been speculated that this scene could be connected to the upcoming Agent Carter television series, by introducing a young Alexander Pierce prior to his cameo here. As always, Marvel Studios can do no wrong in my eyes, especially when it comes to cool crossovers between films (which is half the fun anyway isn’t it?).

What do you think to this (potentially) exciting development? do you think ANT-MAN should stand alone? or should there be some connective tissue between franchises via familiar character cameos? Let us know in the comments section!
