Before the actual ceremony at the end of the month, the Emmys like to get a few awards out of the way (the ceremony would go on forever otherwise!) with the Creative Arts Emmys. But it does not mean just because they are a week before that there’s no big winners in there. Oh no!
The Creative Arts winners were announced, with shows like Sherlock, True Detective, American Horror Story: Coven and Game Of Thrones all receiving awards for their achievement in casting, cinematography and costume. There were also a couple of tie wins, with American Masters and Years of Living Dangerously both winning Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series and Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Vice nabbing the Outstanding Informational Series or Special win.
Some of the “main show” awards were handed out too, with Bob’s Burgers winning Best Animated Programme after being nominated for three years (we let out a Linda Belcher yeaaah when we heard the news!). The most deserving and not surprising win of the night went to Orange Is The New Black‘s Uzo Aduba, who nabbed the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Role for her portrayal of Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren. She tearfully accepted her award from Morgan Freeman, and later on revealed she was incredibly star struck (we would have been too!). Allison Janney, Jimmy Fallon and Scandal’s Joe Morton also picked up Outstanding Guest stars awards.
But HBO are the big winners here – we all know the network has collectively got 99 nominations for their various shows this year, and the wins at the Creative Emmys have put them up 15 wins so far. Will anybody actually beat them?! You’ll have to find out when Seth Meyers hosts the Primetime Emmys on Monday 25th August.
