Although the first two films in Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy are still held with extremely high regard, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus is easily one of the highest points of the entire series.
Prior to Heath Ledger’s mesmerizing portrayal of The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT, Molina’s Doc Ock was a strong contender for the greatest comic book baddie in cinematic history. However, as time has passed, the SPIDER-MAN franchise has slowly started to wither and lose the quality of its predecessors (as THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 proved). Now, as a method of maintaining interest and originality in the aging film series, Sony are paving the way for a number of spin-offs in the near future. The first of these spin-offs is Drew Goddard’s villain-orientated SINISTER SIX, which is set for release in November 2016.
With the villainous super-team gearing up to take over theatre screens in just over two years, it’s highly likely that we will get a new version of Doctor Octopus. While promoting LOVE IS STRANGE, Molina was asked about the possibility of him reprising his role in the rebooted film franchise. His answer is incredibly tantalising for fellow fans of the fantastic SPIDER-MAN 2. Check it out below:
‘That was the most fun I think I’ve ever had on a movie of that kind, you know, those big, big sort of features where you spend like six months hanging off a wire, you know, and that stuff. But it was the first movie of that kind that I’ve ever been involved in. I had a wonderful time. I loved it. I mean, I’d go back and do it again in a heartbeat’.
When asked if a reprisal was at all possible, Molina responded:
‘The thing is, no actor owns those roles’.
Although it is very unlikely Molina will once again don the mechanical arms, stranger things have happened (Ben Affleck as Batman anyone?). It is also possible that Sony may look back to the earlier (and far superior) instalment’s in the series to ensure future success after the convoluted AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. Molina’s Doc Ock was a brilliantly well-rounded, understandable, and most importantly relatable villain, that could work wonders for Marc Webb’s failing franchise.
What do you think? Would you like to see Molina play Doctor Octopus once again in THE SINISTER SIX? or should the series continue to deviate from Raimi’s films? Let us know in the comments section!

I will never understand all this hatred and or bad press The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is getting. I’ve been a Spider-Man fan for 40 years and as far as I can see, this film is the first film every cast member is perfect, story good and action sequences excellent plus has all of those Spidey and Peter Parker’moments’ I would expect from a darn good Spider-Man flick. Andrew and Emma are perfect together. Maguire and Dunst were not near as good. This is by far the best Spider-Man film yet and I for one, cannot wait for more
