OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN came out at the same time as WHITE HOUSE DOWN (Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx) and was probably easily dismissed if you saw the latter, like I did, as another one of those patriotic America Yeah! movies. But in reality it was a completely different animal and with the rumours that Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman are all set to returns to their roles for the sequel, they’ve wasted no time pinning down a director to take it to the next stage.

Going for the imaginative LONDON HAS FALLEN, fallen down, fallen down…the new director has been announced as Fredrik Bond, the man who also directed the Shia LaBeouf-starring CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN, as they move events from the White House to London.

This time around, the three main characters, U.S. Secret Service agent (Butler), U.S. president (Eckhart) and the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives (Freeman) are at the funeral of our British prime minister when everything starts to go wrong…sound familiar? Whatever the final get together, it’s an impressive nucleus to work with and so let’s hope for something (slightly) with the same entertainment.

With a script from Christian Gudegast, who last wrote A MAN APART (2003) that starred Vin Diesel, this is Bond’s first major big break and with a name like that and in London? Surely he’s got to have a lot of hope.

We’ll bring you all the news of LONDON HAS FALLEN as it’s announced.
