It was all the way back in February that we brought you the news that THN’s golden boy Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be producing an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. Since then it has pretty much been complete radio silence about the project.
Whilst speaking to moviefone the actor turned director has finally shared an update. He revealed that there was a team of people hard at work on the project, a team which features some of the talent who worked on Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT series. Excited? You should be.
“Right now we’re working on a script. It’s me and [David S] Goyer and the screenwriter and Neil Gaiman, as well as the good folks at DC and Warner Bros. It’s a really cool team of people. It’s a lot of the same people who worked on the Nolan ‘Batman’ movies. It’s really exciting. There’s not a script yet, we’re still kind of working it out because it’s such a complicated adaptation because Sandman wasn’t written as novels. Sin City was written as a novel. Sandman is 75 episodic issues. There’s a reason people have been trying and failing to adapt Sandman for the past 20 years. We’re still in the middle of it, so I don’t want to make any claims, but I think we’ve got the right ideas.”
He remained tight-lipped about rumours that he will also direct and potentially star in the film. After just how good DON JON was there are a lot of people hoping that this project will be his directorial follow-up. He did take time to discuss how happy he was that close friend and collaborator Rian Johnson has been announced as the director of new STAR WARS films, episode eight and nine. Up until now Levitt has starred, however briefly in the all of Johnson’s films. Surely that means that the tradition will continue?
“[I haven’t asked him] Not yet. But I am certain that they are going to be great movies. I remember when he told me about it, I felt so privileged because he told me about it before the announcement and I’m just so excited. I’m excited for two reasons: one, I’m excited for my dear friend to have this amazing opportunity, and I’m also excited that there’s going to be these movies. These are going to be such good STAR WARS movies. He’s going to rock it.”
Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR which is released in the US today and in the UK 25th August.
