He’s probably been one of the most underused (major) characters of the recent Marvel world takeover but Jeremy Renner is rumoured to have some time, finally, in the spotlight for the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA 3.
To his credit, he hasn’t kicked off about it too much and although this full role isn’t a given, it would make sense for Cap to have a new sidekick after Black Widow’s inclusion in THE WINTER SOLDIER. Obviously, we don’t know yet what happens in the build-up before CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 but Hawkeye can be a handy character, and Renner fits his style impressively. Speaking to Collider regarding what’s next, he gave this little tit-bit:
“There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”
As he says, Renner does have a number of projects in production over the next two years but knowing how secretive Marvel can get and the fact that directors, the Russo brothers, didn’t exactly dismiss the idea – it could be a ‘go!’ When being questioned by SHH regarding Renner’s role, co-director Anthony Russo had this to say:
“Unfortunately we can’t (comment), it’s too specific to what the movie may be.”
His brother, Joe, added:
“There are certainly characters that Cap is close to or has a strong relationship with that would make sense appearing in his films. I think that’s all we can say about it.”
What do you think?
CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is set for a May, 2016 release with both Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely taking writing duties, as they did for THE FIRST AVENGER, THOR: THE DARK WORLD and THE WINTER SOLDIER.
