Liam Neeson Happy To Reprise His Role As Ra’s Al Ghul On ‘Arrow’

Arrow Ra's Al Ghul

Liam Neeson has an encyclopaedia of badass characters in his extensive filmography, however one of his most well known on-screen persona’s is easily that of Ra’s Al Ghul. Neeson portrayed Ra’s Al Ghul in the first chapter of Christopher Nolan’s ground-breaking DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY, before returning for a small (but memorable) cameo in 2012’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

It is no secret that Nolan’s acclaimed work on the Batman series has sufficiently influenced television’s Arrow in terms of tone and storytelling. However, in the upcoming third season of the show, Arrow will finally secure its long-running Bat-connection by reintroducing Al Ghul to audiences of the small screen. Although we are currently unaware of which actor will take on the highly coveted role, Neeson’s scene-stealing portrayal of the character in BATMAN BEGINS will be an incredibly tough act to follow. Now however, in a new interview Neeson has expressed his strong desire to once again play Ra’s Al Ghul, albeit on a slightly smaller screen. You can check out what the TAKEN star had to say below:

When asked if he had been approached about the role he stated:

‘No, I haven’t, I haven’t at all’.

Neeson was then asked if he would like to play the character again:

‘I would, in a heartbeat, if it came my way, yeah. Very much so’.

Finally, he was then asked if he had some advice for a new actor playing the role:

‘They have to believe in their philosophy. Ra’s al Ghul absolutely believed what he was doing was ultimately saving civilization, and it was quite a good argument he comes up with. Throughout the ages this fraternity, that brought the plague to wipe out a section of mankind because it needed to be regenerated again. Very dangerous, but you have to believe it’.

Although the idea of Liam Neeson playing one of his most famous roles once again is very tantalising, it’s unlikely that the CWs Arrow would be able to stretch its budget far enough to accommodate a star of his calibre. However, Neeson was willing to reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn on television for the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. So it’s clear that the fantastic actor is slightly protective over his past characters, which does give a slight glimmer of hope that we will see his deadly Ra’s Al Ghul in season 3 of Arrow later this year.
