Albert Brooks Joins NFL Concussion Film

Albert BrooksAlbert Brooks has joined the expanding cast for Sony’s as yet untitled film centering on the world of concussions in the NFL, America’s National Football League. Peter Landesman of PARKLAND fame is scripting the film based on a GQ article which looked at whether concussions caused during the sport could make players crazy, maybe even crazy enough to kill themselves, and whether or not the NFL were supporting scientific research or just discrediting such claims. There is no word yet on whether the article’s title GAME BRAIN will be used or not at this point.

Brooks is set to play Cyril Wecht, a chief forensic pathologist who encourages Dr Bennet Omalu (Will SMith) to continue his research and fight for the truth against the NFL. Alec Baldwin is also part of the cast. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is also in talks to join the cast after rave reviews for BEYOND THE LIGHTS. Mbatha-Raw has previously starred in this year’s BELLE, as well as TV’s Touch and Doctor Who.

The subject of the film sounds fascinating, and although it will obviously contain spoilers for those wishing to enter the film adaptation blind, here’s a link to the original article:
