Alongside rumours of William Friedkin directing, and Vince Vaughn being in talks, Colin Farrell has spoken out to confirm his place in season 2 of a highly coveted role in True Detective.
After the stupendous first season with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, actors have been fighting for a spot in Nic Pizzolatto’s unique television crime drama. Farrell spoke to the Irish Sunday World and also revealed a little more about what he knows already. He had this to say:
“I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited. I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.”
Supposedly the plot will focus on the “bloody murder of a corrupt city businessman found dead the night before a major transportation deal” with “three police officials from different cities” trying to find out who did it. As well at the likes of Taylor Kitsch and Vaughn being rumoured, there’s also Elisabeth Moss in the mill and interestingly all four have been mentioned a number of times. I feel they’ll mix up the lead pair this time, with Moss and Farrell being a great possibility. The Irish man is often undervalued but always gives his all despite not necessarily choosing the best movies.
I adored True Detective and sure Pizzolatto won’t be adding anyone without a huge amount of contemplation. It’ll be interesting to see who directs as well, because Cary Fukunaga made that series his own. We’re sure there’s a lot of news to come but hopefully not too much to be revealed, I enjoyed it when people were still finding it and hopefully the hype will die down and the writing will do itself justice.
